Orphanet

Orphanet is a database of information on rare diseases and orphan drugs for all publics. Its aim is to contribute to the improvement of the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients with rare diseases.
Orphanet includes a Professional Encyclopaedia, which is expert-authored and peer-reviewed, a Patient Encyclopaedia and a Directory of expert Services. This Directory includes information on relevant clinics, clinical laboratories, research activities and patient organisations.
Cosbid

COSBID is an international group of clinical and basic scientists working on various kinds of brain injury resulting from head injuries or strokes of different types. Our work includes both the investigation and treatment of human patients and the investigation of experimental models of these diseases. It has become evident mainly from experimental work that permanent and transient depolarisations (see Patients/Families for a description of what is meant by this) of gray matter of the central nervous system may be major causes of progressive deterioration in border zones of traumatic or ischemic foci, and appear to accompany or possibly cause clinical deterioration (as is frequently observed in patients with these conditions). These depolarisations, referred to as peri-infarct depolarisations (PID) have attracted interest over the past two or more decades among scientists in the field. They resemble another phenomenon, cortical spreading depression (CSD), that was first described by Leão as a sudden depression of electrocortical activity spreading across the cortex of rabbits (Leao, A. A. P. 1944).
Avert-IT

Avert-IT is an EU-funded project to develop a mechanism, for use within intensive and high-dependency care units, which will have the ability to monitor and predict the likelihood, and primary causes of arterial adverse hypotension events. The full project title is "Advanced Arterial Hypotension Adverse Event prediction through a Novel Bayesian Neural Network" and will run for three years, beginning in January 2008.

Brain-IT

Main Objectives:
1. To develop and disseminate standards for the collection, analysis and reporting of intensive care monitoring data collected from brain injured patients.
2. To provide an efficient multi-centre infra-structure for generating evidence on the utility of new forms of invasive and non-invasive intensive care monitoring and methods for improving the care and outcome of brain-injured patients.
3. To develop and use a standardised database as a tool for hypothesis generation and the development, testing and validation of new data analysis methodologies.
NEUROTRAUMA-BRASIL

Website of the European Brain Injury Consortioum

The European Brain Injury Consortium aims:
1) To establish close co-operation between European Neuro Trauma Centers and investigators in the management of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other types of acute brain damage and 2) To act as an advisory organ in both practical and theoretical issues concerning all kinds of brain injury studies.
The consortium includes many leading research centers from Europe. The consortium was founded in 1994 and formally established a
